Retired service manager here.. I 100% agree. I tap the button to disable it. It's not 100% dry start, but oil stops flowing, plus the over use of the starter.

I have a Buick with Stop/Start that can not be deactivated. It has gone through 3 AGM batteries in 6 years due to internal shorts. I was driving in stop and go traffic last week for and hour and we would have stopped and started at least 100 times. I just put the transmission in manual mode.

I'm not sitting at a stoplight overnight. I used to hate stop start, but we just bought a new car and it starts on brake release rather than throttle input, so by the time you go to throttle, it's running and I don't even notice it.

Auto start/stop just increases maintenance and more potential problems. Mostly on the starting system.

The cars need to have electric oil pumps, that are always running. But that will be another thing to fail, along with the starter.

Not to mention how much more that starter has to work buy turning over 20 times just to take a trip to the market doesn’t sound efficient to me let alone it takes more fuel to start the vehicle than it does to sit at a light for a min
