We live near a fruit stand and one time I asked the guy how to pick a good one. He said look for the yellow spot, knock to see if it sounds hollow, and then look for the little lines that have black dots on them. He said that’s where the bees sting it to get the juice out. He said that’s how you know it’s sweet. I’ve done that ever since and never been disappointed.

What to look for: 1. Round NOT oval in shape 2. Darker green the better 3. Look for the tiniest "butthole" aka not the stem end 4. ONE yellow area if any

I’m in Mississippi the watermelon capital of the world. We have huge long striped watermelons. They weigh a lot too. I put salt on mine. We choose ours by the yellow/white belly and the dear stem end and a hollow thump.
