There’s a young woman I work with who came to work one day, practically doubled over in pain. I asked. She said she had her period, and this always happens. I didn’t really know her that well, but my mama bear sense kicked in, and I started asking questions. I told her she should should talk to her GYN about the possibility of endometriosis. She said the doc was aware of her heavy painful cycles, but never brought it up. That night, her hubby brought her to the ED due to her horrible pain. She was rushed to the OR as they suspected an intestinal blockage. What they found was advanced endo. She’s 25, a newlywed, and wants children. I cannot believe her GYNECOLOGIST has never even brought it up, despite her always suffering heavy, painful cycles! Infuriating!!!

I’m a high school nurse. I have a handful of girls who literally crawl into my office once a month. I finally have one who is getting an ultrasound. And possible iud among with starting oral contraceptives. It took so long but I’m so hopeful for her. Also another student who almost had appendicitis surgery but turned out to be endometriosis. These kids moms still suffer too and they are hopefully getting a diagnosis too. I hate that it took so long
