Trump claims that the 14th amendment, which has been the law of the land for well over 100 years, has been applied too broadly and should not be extended to a child unless one of their parents is a citizen or legal resident. Opponents fear that the ruling could be used to strip citizenship of all immigrants, and could create stateless children who could be ineligible for education, government support, and legal protection. As if to confirm those fears, the Trump administration removed the Department of State page online which discusses statelessness, a page which had been available in one version or another since at least the Obama administration. The Supreme Court is not expected to release their decision until June or July.
