I'm very intrigued by the narrative details you give here on baptism rituals in the early church and I'm curious to learn more. Are there any other contemporaneous sources than Cyril that corroborate his account?

Can you talk more on how baptism evolved as an initiation ritual? Weren’t there a plurality of views on the necessity running water fairly early on and remains of old churches with small fonts?

A friend of mine seems to think the young man who in Mark’s gospel loses his cloak is the same man who later on will reappear in the tomb. He believes it is in a sense a baptism story. I’m not sure, it could just be a symbolic representation of how the disciples who gave up everything to follow Jesus at his arrest gave up everything to get away from him. I like both I think.

I think the symbology makes a lot of sense, taking off the old clothes and being reborn - coming out naked. That’s very coherent symbology.

this is probably the most fake sounding thing I've ever heard you say. I believe you, but it sounds like a prank given modern religious sensibilities. I'm happy to add it to my list of facts that sound fake but aren't.
