I’m not a hater but enjoy my short Dazai character analysis. I think it’s a common fact that Dazai believes that he wants to die when he’s subconsciously searching for a reason to live but knowing that he’ll likely never find it. He sees fog when he looks to the future because he doesn’t want to see himself live long enough to be happy, he’s a burning pile who wants to get worse. More to this is the fact He is someone who tries to bury his true feelings to turn either into a blank canvas or someone completely different, this is also likely why he is so accustomed to believe he is not human. He’s also a lonely person but at the same time is a huge contradiction. He constantly messes with people, clearly for their attention but he also tries to distance himself due to the fact he perceives everything he loves as lost eventually and that’s why he’ll never find a reason to live, that’s also the reason he hates pity because people feeling bad for him feels disgusting for someone with depression (from my own experience.) and has a warped view of intimacy and romance/ using his genius for good due to his past even when Oda said to become a good man he knows he’ll likely never be one because he’s really morally gray. I also think the reason he makes his suicidal tendencies so known is for someone to convince him out of it. He sees both sides of good and evil as the same and purposely made himself put all his attention on results (in the mafia but we can see this in the agency sometimes too.) he usually puts on a carefree facade to guide people away from digging to deep or figuring out he’s more smart then he lets on.
