Edit: Before even calling 911 you take all their clothing off (if possible) and put them under cool/warm water in the shower, call 911 and continue to let it run over the burn for 20 minutes. The paramedics will most likely keep them in the shower for the full 20 minutes before taking them. It stops the skin from further cooking. I had this happen. My 1 year old had boiling coffee spill down his chest. I did all these steps and I’m so grateful I knew what to do because he had absolutely zero scarring. I feel so blessed I came across this information before having it happen to me. I had him under freezing water and thankfully my husband was there and told me to warm it up. I was just panicked sitting fully clothed holding my baby under the shower. My older son was so amazing in those moments. He went and got my husband and told him to call 911. He knew it was really serious, I’m just so proud of him. So before saying it would never happen to me, trust me you never know. I am very careful and still make sure I know a lot of preventative measures for emergencies.I was standing right next to him and watched the whole thing happen.
