I’m blended Family Mum here.. if you don’t parent the same how do you manage as a couple? That is one thing we have to agree otherwise it just doesn’t work.

Thats the problem right there, me and my partner discuss things behind closed doors but share the sames age related rules and boundaries and behavioural expectations across all the kids. The 7 kids don't outnumber or dominate us ever as our relationship has to outlast their childhood.

my stepson has the exact same rules as my own child in our house. I love him as much as my own and he's treated the same as my own.

I think if you didn’t live together with the child, this would be valid. But the way you speak of your dynamic is like there is a barrier and a difference between the children you have birthed and the ones you have not. And it seems unfair

But if ALL the children live together wouldn’t the boundaries be all the same

Lou’s straight facts :
I would completely understand parenting differently if lived apart, I do that as we are in blended family, and I have very strong opinions around it, but living together in one house surely that should all be the same? Because wouldn’t resentment come in between the children

I have two, he has younger two and we had one together. It’s so hard, my older two are angels cos I was so so strict bringing them up, he’s not as strict with his two, we have them just under half the time and everything was ok until we’ve had one together, our toddler is copying his twos behaviour. I come down on him for things but can’t come down on his two when it’s them showing him the behaviour 😭 he calls me a control freak too 🙈

If your step kid is liveing in your family home then your rules and boundaries should apply to him as well and dad should be supportive of that

We have 4 2 mine 2 his. His are younger 9 and 6 and mine are 11 and 15. Same rules apply in our house same rules. We’ve done it for 5 years now and they know they have rules at ours they don’t have at mums and we have a strict schedule but some times it is hard. We went camping last weekend and surprisingly went well 🤣. But my partner treats my kids the same as his and vice versa and we are on the same page as you have to be or it causes chaos x

We had this however both of our kids go to other parents and its a struggle. I think if he lives with you full time id agree with others then you should have a say too 🤷🏼‍♀️

Apparently controversial take to some, but - if his boy lives with you full time, I think you should be allowed to have the final say over certain things actually...

Surely if he lives with you full time, the rules and parenting are the same for all children?

If you don’t parent the same or have each other’s back then it’s a recipe for disaster 💯

This is always the issue in my household. My husband’s son doesn’t live here full time but he’s with us every Friday-Sunday and all school holidays, he parents so different to me and it causes so many issues as my lot see the differences 🤦🏻‍♀️

It never works when his daughter comes to mine every other weekend I dread it all the time thinking oh god what are you going to say and do this time round .. everytime we have her she always mentions about her mum saying .. this and that and she wants him back and you ruined everything . My mum can’t afford this and that and my dad I want this etc etc .. winds me up the wall that’s why I tend to just stay with my girl instead xx
