Client asks: “What’s your price?” Don’t just send your price. And don’t reply with “What’s your budget?” Do this instead: Ask what they actually need first. Here’s why. When a client asks for your price, they are not always ready to buy. Sometimes they are trying to quickly decide whether you are worth continuing the conversation with. If you immediately send “₦50,000”, you have reduced the conversation to one number. Now their brain starts comparing your price with someone else’s. But if you first understand the exact work they need, you can explain the value around the price instead of throwing out a number with no context. Imagine a business owner contacts a social media manager: Client: “How much do you charge?” The social media manager replies: “₦100,000.” The client says: “That’s too expensive.” Conversation over. Instead: “I can give you the exact price. First, what are you looking to achieve with the social media page, and what kind of support do you need?” Now you have something useful. Maybe they only need content. Maybe they need content + strategy. Maybe they need someone to manage everything. Those are not the same job, so they should not automatically have the same price. The mistake is thinking the client is asking only for a number. Sometimes they are really asking: “What exactly am I getting for my money?” Your job is to find that out before giving a final figure. What NOT to do: ❌ “My price is ₦100k.” ❌ “What’s your budget?” Do this: ✅ Ask about the project, goal, quantity, or exact support they need. ✅ Understand the scope. ✅ Then give a clear price based on what they actually need. You are not avoiding the price. You are making sure the price actually matches the job. That small difference can completely change the conversation. The Client Code goes deeper into how to get clients easier, communicate professionally, understand client psychology, handle objections, build trust, and stop losing opportunities because of poor communication. If you keep making these small mistakes, they can quietly cost you clients. Check the link in my bio. #ClientPsychology #SalesTips #BusinessTips #TheClientCode
