When I shared the story about my 4-year-old asking whether it was a mummy day or a daddy day, I thought a few people might relate. I didn’t expect tens of thousands of people to see it. And I definitely didn’t expect to hear from so many families living exactly the same way. Parents working opposite shifts. Families juggling childcare. Mums missing weekends, dinners, bedtimes and school events. People using annual leave just to spend time together. Honestly, I thought our family was one of the few living like this. I didn’t realise how common it had become. It made me realise how many families are quietly carrying the same guilt and making the same sacrifices. And the more I thought about it, the more I realised it shouldn’t have to be this way. Families should get to be families. Kids deserve time with their parents. Mums shouldn’t have to choose between paying the bills and being present for the moments that matter. I know work is part of life. I actually like being a nurse. But I don’t think missing out should be the only option. That’s why I’m learning new skills. Not because I want to quit my job. Not because I want to get rich. But because I want more choice. More family dinners. More weekends together. More of the moments I know I’ll never get back.
