It is choices but with intelligence. Im the best worker why didn’t I get promoted. Because somebody demonstrated the skills needed for the promotion maybe not the best worker but the other person proved they had more value in there current position and a promotion would be a gamble. You can get a degree but did you research the availability of jobs vs the amount of people qualified in the area you want to live before starting that path. The list goes on and sure theres some exceptions like AI took over your career choice but those tend to be that the exception not the norm.

while it's true there are events that are out of our hands that can impact us, a majority boils down to personal responsibility and choices. For instance I have a couple vehicles that are 25 years old, both paid off, on liability that I maintain. I do that so I don't have a huge car payment every month. that frees me up to pay down debt faster, invest, spend on wants over needs, help people etc. I could complain about interest rates, price of cars, etc, but instead I bought older vehicles and kept up on the maintenance. which over the course of a year, with larger repairs is cheaper than a car loan

You can make the “right” choices and still fail, absolutely. That’s just life unfortunately, there’s nothing that can be done about that. It’s then your choice once again to either let that define you and stay down, or to get better and keep going.
