@itskaylajaiden: The greatest trick the American economy ever pulled was convincing workers to argue about a number on a paycheck instead of what that paycheck actually buys. In 1938, a quarter an hour could buy you more of a life than many Americans can afford today making $15 an hour. Let’s have the conversation nobody wants to have.
I also HATE the argument, you can survive on $7.25 an hour.... God forbid people want to enjoy their life and have experiences, and treats, and maintenance, and be able to splurge every now and then.

Sadly, we’re not meant to thrive, we’re meant to stay in the working class.

I want a maximum wage implemented, the highest paid employee cannot be paid more than, lets just say 500% more, than their lowest paid employee. So if the lowest paid employee is only making $50k a year, the highest paid employee cannot make more than $250k a year, including all compensation such as bonuses and stocks. That on top of closing some of the tax loopholes, I think would be a great step in the right direction

My 20 year old son makes $16 an hour (in South Carolina) and he can’t move out because of exactly what you just broke down. I’m letting him live rent free so he can save a ton of money to by a condo or townhome (old probably outdated one) because that is the only way he will be able to survive at that wage. But most aren’t granted that luxury, I know I wasn’t at his age during the 2008 crash.

also might I add that minimum wage also doesn't cover 3× the rent.

it's because the greedy companies dont see it as JUST one million people making $7.25/hr, they see it as $7.25 million an hour. They want those millions for themselves.

And nobody should be having to work 40+ hours a week we should be working at Max 32 hours a week and be paid enough in those 32 hours to afford the life that we should be living.

Let’s not forget that the federal minimum wage was literally designed so that ANYONE working a 40 hour work week could afford the basics.

I’m a registered nurse in California and I can barely afford a one bedroom apartment for my son and me. Because I am taxed so heavily I barely walk with anything

The fact that the federal minimum wage is well below the poverty line even at 40 hours a week says a lot

might I add an oil change circa 2004 was 14.99-19.99. now an oil change is $85-$130. that's insane! there is no reason it should cost that much!

I make just over $20 an hour working 50+ hours per week in healthcare and I STILL can’t afford my own place. After 25 years living on my own, I’m back in my mom’s house. I am 51 years old. It’s insanity!

minimum wage being stagnant at 7.25 didnt stop any lay offs, didn't stop the grocery stores from price gouging and didnt stop the job market from stop hiring ppl.

No great country should require ANYONE to work multiple jobs or even a second over 40 hours to get by. If you WANT to work 50+ hours or multiple jobs to grind at get higher faster that’s an option, not a requirement. It’s disgusting.
