My dad once told me I was too ambitious. Growing up, I wanted to be a pilot more than anything. After a lot of persuasion, I finally convinced him to let me apply to flight school. I got the application form, passed the qualifying exams and was set to begin training. Then, in the very week I was supposed to resume, he told me, “I can’t put all my eggs in one basket”. I thought he was joking. At first, I thought he was joking. He wasn’t. That moment broke something in me, and I’ve never quite been the same since.

on my WhatsApp status, I posted about how societal norms and standards are harmful, and I also posted abt how idrc abt academics in the sense that having a degree doesn't guarantee success in life. my dad saw it and somehow made it seem like im shading him for not doing enough as a father... mind u, that was MY personal opinion and he was nowhere in my thought process when I posted that...

i cannot read a book that isn't a school textbook in front of my mom bc she says they "take up storage in my head" and "fill it with confusing ideas" (i do read political/classic/philosophical books but i mostly read fantasy books from booktok😭💀)
