As a Labour & Delivery nurse, I completely respect people’s autonomy and their right to choose the birth experience that feels right for them. But personally, I wouldn’t choose a free birth. Birth can be beautiful, calm, and empowering — but it can also change in seconds. I’ve seen emergencies where quick medical intervention made all the difference for mom and baby. Even low-risk pregnancies can become high-risk unexpectedly. For anyone considering free birth, I always encourage having a trained midwife or medical provider present.
