We eat this during the dragon boat festival to honor Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet and a minister. When the rival state had captured Qu Yuan’s homeland, he jumped into the river to unalive himself. The people sent out dragonboat to look for him, but to no avail, so they dropped sticky rice balls into the river so that the fish would eat them instead of Qu Yuan's body. ✨Types of Bak Chang: Each dialect group has their version of bak zhang: Hokkien, Nyonya, Cantonese, Teochew, Hakka.
