I'm so tired of hearing this. Some of us actually are domain experts. Rolling your own auth is genuinely not that hard. Now would I recommend rolling your own crypto? No. For 99.99999% of engineers, definitely not.

I was once forced by a client to use their own authentication system which passed the password in a GET request in a query parameter 😩

I've noticed that building your own authentication is becoming more rare in the industry. Yeah security is a big factor (especially if developers don't have security expertise), but I think its mainly because of speed, & convenience.

ehhh, yeah maybe if you have a stupid simple site. If you have IOT devices connecting to it then this take does not work. Django is a good example of a framework that has good built in auth but allows for complex systems to interact with it still. Good authentication has many layers, reverse proxy, WAF, etc

I'm doing it right now.And it's not that difficult. maybe you're not talking about writing computer code.I don't know. maybe you're talking about some kind of project where you're not doing an online server. I don't know. sure, there's more than having a password. But it's not that difficult. 😃
