@channelnewsasia: Moving to Melbourne sounded almost like a dream for Yi Tsing. But despite earning almost the same salary as she did in Singapore, she found herself saving less money. Higher taxes, rising rents and everyday expenses quickly added up, making the cost of living harder to ignore than she expected. It ultimately led her and her partner to rethink where they wanted to build their future. Watch the full Money Mind episode. #cnainsider #australia #costofliving
The savings comes from staying with your parents not the taxes

I am a “Sg quitter” living and working in Melbourne. Yes, the tax is high and public transport is horrible.. but hey! Work environment is superb.. Outdoor is excellent.. Centrelink is helpful and my Super aka CPF is getting 9-12% compounded gain per year.. look deep and you’ll find good 😂😜🥰

Well i prefer working 8 hrs a day 5 days a week than 12 hrs and 6 days in SG, so actually you earn less in SG per hr Than AU

Such a biased reporting. Next time compare apples to apples. Living with parents or family significantly increases your savings capacity. So what, when she goes back, her and partner will live with her parents?

I love Singapore—I worked there for almost 10 years as an S Pass holder, and working 8+ hours a day 6days a week was the norm. I eventually moved to Australia because I couldn’t save much. Here, I earn 3x more, enjoy a better work-life balance, and as long as you’re not picky about the job, you can make a good income.

I've been in Australia since 1983, I've had my fair share of ups and downs but I'll still call Australia home. The weather, the people, the lifestyles and certainly not the most competitive environment like what Singapore boast to have.
I'd rather live my life without the stress.

Soon she will realize she makes less in Singapore per hr because she is working 60 hr a week instead of 30 hrs for the same salary

She saved 70% in Singapore because she could live with her parents. So if she was paying for rent there, how does she expect her net worth to increase so fast?
