Please don't forget those Caribbean British citizens that were here pre Windrush. Many fought in WW2 including my father. Again these people were called. Yes we need to give thanks to them all.

happy windrush day, and respect to all our carribean elders, sadly anyway never got the chance to return back home, they worked tirelessly and laid the foundations for the next generations, I hope the younger generations know how much they sacrificed.

Many of the very first Caribbean migrants who arrived in the UK on the Empire Windrush in 1948 were temporarily housed in underground bomb shelters. Because post-war Britain was facing severe housing shortages, around 236 Windrush passengers were bussed from Tilbury Docks to the Clapham South Underground Bomb Shelter. The underground dormitories were windowless, cramped, and noisy. Passengers slept on three-tier bunk beds.They paid six shillings and sixpence a week for their beds and food. It was only a temporary measure, and most passengers found permanent private accommodation elsewhere within a few weeks.
