You should always let them know you’re leaving, yes they can’t keep you there. You need to sign AMA papers leaving against medical advice.

3 hours? 🤣 My record for ERs is 48 hours. Nothing is quick there. I think they get extra $ the longer you're there

I went to the er at 2am once. Waited in the waiting room for 9 hours getting worse. Husband got pissed off we left ama and went to the stand alone ER. I was in and out of there in 3 hours including X-rays, blood work, ct scan, and 3 bags of fluid.

Don’t listen to the AMA comments. I left AMA back in 2019 with my high risk pregnancy. The only reason I was still admitted? I had one low blood sugar overnight. It was Thanksgiving. I signed out AMA and insurance paid for it. We had tricare at the time. Don’t sweat it

They make you feel that way on purpose so they can charge you or insurance for more time spent there. Literally make you feel like you are a prisoner until they say you can go.

I work in emergency medicine. You actually do need to (or seriously should) tell them. You need to sign an AMA (against medical advice) form. 99% of the time your insurance will not pay for your visit if you don't sign an AMA form. So be prepared for a bill for the visit that you will be fully responsible for. Their communication should have been better but they do triage patient so the more critical patients will come first regardless of if you came in before they did. Hopefully your insurance company doesn't care but be prepared.

Your “bathroom is right there” is not direct supervision.

You left AMA and your insurance probably won’t cover the visit.

they are working. they are understaffed and likely discussing patient care and doing their best.

You may want to call patient relations because when you leave AMA (against medical advice) often your insurance will not pay for any portion of your hospital visit

There are some urgent cares that can do x-rays ! They are usually quicker . Some people make it really hard to understand why are you in health care when you can’t do your job half the time lol.

Go to urgent care or your reg dr just to have her thoroughly checked and they can review the X-rays there

As a pediatric ER nurse of 20 years you did fine leaving if your daughter is acting normal now. No one will do anything about you leaving especially if the Xrays were fine. Your friend is correct

I had five broken bones in my foot as a kid and my mom didn’t take me to the doctor for a week or two because I was still running around. My uncle pointed out that the bruises were pretty funky, and it was tender to the touch, that’s the only reason she took me in at all.

My 2yo broke his leg! He could walk but you could tell something wasn’t right. Keep an eye on her!

My daughter fell off a swing and broke both wrist. We took her to ER and were there 5 hours before they came in. By hour 3 she was acting normal and playing with toys not crying even walking her hands up and down the wall showing me she was okay. Come to find out she had 2 broken wrist. Doctor said kids will get over initial pain and act normal even when something is definitely wrong. It could be anything and I understand she is acting fine but I promise she should be checked out. You will never forgive yourself if it turns out she has something wrong and you left.
