MAQAMATgaming :
Statement on Democracy, Human Rights, and Engagement with the Taliban
I strongly believe in democracy and in the protection of fundamental human rights. These values are central to societies that respect freedom, justice, and human dignity.
It is deeply concerning when political leaders and institutions, including those connected with the European Union, choose to engage with the Taliban as though they represent a legitimate government deserving international acceptance.
The Taliban have repeatedly shown disregard for democratic values, human rights, and the basic freedoms of the Afghan people. Reports over many years have documented violence, persecution, disappearances, and the suffering of countless families who do not know the fate of their loved ones — including fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, and innocent civilians.
A government should serve and protect its people. When power is maintained through fear, violence, and the denial of basic freedoms, it raises serious moral and humanitarian concerns.
The international community must remember that true democracy cannot coexist with oppression. Supporting or legitimizing groups that ignore human rights sends a dangerous message to those who continue to suffer.
The people of Afghanistan deserve peace, dignity, freedom, and a future built on justice — not fear.
We must stand for humanity, accountability, and democratic values everywhere in the world.
