@technooptimist: Data center water waste is one of the largest myths dominating the AI conversation in the U.S. "It's weird, it's taken my industry by surprise, because it's a bit of a weird issue. If you're ever gonna build anything, a data center is like the most benign thing you could ever build, because it doesn't do anything. It just sits there." — A16z Co-Founder, Marc Andreessen on The Joe Rogan Experience #datacenter #ai #aiprotest #joerogan #marcandreessen
“He needed the water rights” “We don’t use water” Reconcile those statements.

"It doesn't do anything, you just rack up thousands and thousands of computers in racks." Insane sentence. One of Grok Ai's data centers takes 30 gas turbines to run, they are only permitted for 15. For reference, thats enough power for like 200k homes.

It needs the amount of water that was already allocated to the land he purchased

He’s literally saying the opposite of what every area other source says about data centers. If someone needs to buy 40,000 acres of land to get the water rights for a data center the size of 2000 Walmarts, it’s pretty likely that this guy is lying about how much water that data center will need/use/take.

I’m annoyed by the anti data center push, I want the overpaying job. It’s a closed loop system for the cooling, and they already make huge concessions for people’s comfort. Just for fear-mongering to rile people up regardless.

I'm confused why people that actually have them have actually said your bills will go up and water will go to waste?

but they dont use closed loop cooling, cheaper to just let the water evaporate, then the heat output itself changes the local climate, then theres the strain on the power grid since they dont wanna pay for thier own generators. For being as high tech and expensive as they are, data centers are still cheap, in a bad way

I live in Utah. "Natural beauty" is a stretch for that area. Empty desert and sagebrush. No trees even. And like 40 miles away from anywhere you could shout and have anyone hear you.

Yes, thank you for agreeing with us "anti-data center" people.

They all call themselves genius then can’t figure out why we don’t want to destroy land for something that isn’t only harming the environment but is going to cost people their jobs
