Mike Rotch :
The Book of Enoch (specifically 1 Enoch) is widely considered to have significant discrepancies with canonical Scripture, which is the primary reason it was excluded from the Bible by most Christian and Jewish traditions. It is largely viewed by scholars as a pseudepigraphal work—a collection of Jewish texts written between the 3rd century BC and 1st century AD, rather than a single work written by the biblical patriarch. Major Discrepancies and Issues with the Book of Enoch:
Contradictions with Genesis and Jesus’ Teachings:
Angels and Marriage: Enoch claims fallen angels (the "Watchers") took human wives and produced offspring (Nephilim). This directly contradicts Jesus' statement in Matthew 22:30 that angels in heaven neither marry nor are given in marriage.
Cause of Sin: While the Bible points to Adam's fall in Genesis, Enoch places the blame for the introduction of evil on the angels and their teaching of forbidden knowledge to humans.
The Flood: Enoch states the angels built a wooden structure to preserve life, whereas Genesis 6 dictates that Noah built the ark.
Doctrinal Differences:
Salvation: The book suggests salvation is linked to special, esoteric knowledge, which aligns more with later Gnostic ideas than the Pauline/canonical teaching of salvation by grace through faith.
The Son of Man: In some sections, Enoch identifies himself as the "Son of Man," a claim that differs from the New Testament identification of Jesus as the sole Son of Man.
Historical and Logical Errors:
Repetition: The stories within the text contradict themselves, such as describing Enoch learning about the Nephilim multiple times as if it were the "first time".
Prophetic Accuracy: The "Dream Visions" (chapters 83–90) are only accurate up to the Maccabean revolt, indicating they were written after that event, not thousands of years earlier.
Angel Names: It lists numerous names of angels and fallen angels not found in the Bible (e.g., Semyaza, Azazel).
Authorship and Authority:
The book was not accepted into the Hebrew canon of Scripture by Jewish scholars.
It was not authored by the Enoch of Genesis, as the style and language indicate a much later composition date.
