@meghannmcuniff: An attempted murder victim stood with his mother as she spoke at the gunman’s sentencing on Thursday in Cleveland, Ohio. The man was 17 when he was shot in both of his feet on July 3, 2025, in Euclid Beach Park near Lake Erie. The gunfire killed his cousin, 20-year-old Jarvis Perryman. His mother, Tanesha Spraggins, told Judge Steven Gall that her son “is standing beside me by the grace of God.” “I can only imagine where, what, why, how, or if, as a mother, what my sister is going through,” Spraggins said of Perryman’s mother, Latisa Perryman. Spraggins’ son rubbed her shoulders as she spoke. “Just know that my son suffered gunshot wounds to both of his feet for months. He couldn't walk. He slept on and off at most four times — four hours daily, he barely ate,” Spraggins said. She said her son “now lives with a metal plate, screws in his foot and scars that will remain with him for the rest of his life.” “Your Honor, my nephew is gone. He aint never coming back. I understand up under the law, you have to withhold a certain standard, but consider what, he didn't consider none of that that night,” Spraggins said. She said her family I “has already received the life sentence of grief and trauma, so I believe that the maximum sentence should be imposed.” Judge Gall, who presides in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, sentenced the killer, Christopher W. Manning, 25, to a total of 32 to 37 years in prison. He pleaded guilty earlier this month to involuntary manslaughter, attempted murder and felonious assault. The judge said Manning has mental health problems that contributed to prosecutors not pursing a capital murder conviction against him that would have made him eligible for the death penalty or at a minimum a 99-year prison sentence. jojo :
Metcalf family have already been sentenced to a life of grief and trauma. Should they not receive the same consideration of a maximum sentence imposed? Should Anthony have not got the maximum sentence of 99 years. Would that not be fair in light of what this family is asking for?
