Ok I think you are both arguing different things, his argument is that a fish (take any old fish) in its current form is genetically predisposed to being able to swim due to years of evolution bringing it to the point; his actual argument being that people reaching their potential is them accessing their genetic potential. I think your argument is that people could also have something happen to them that will cause them to adapt, using the analogy of the fish needing to adapt otherwise it would die. The problem with your argument is that in biology, specifically evolutionary biology, animals don’t adapt to their environment in the way that develops adaptation, such as being able to swim. Evolution happens due to some animals experiencing random mutations, which are usually fairly neutral, or harmful, but in rare cases these mutations however slight will allow that animal or organism to perform better in its environment. Performing better in their environment means that they will now naturally be more likely to reproduce, and thus the animal with the adaptation will soon be the dominant animal. Now I know we are not actually talking about fish here so I may be straw manning you, because you do raise a good point that the body does in a lifetime adapt to things, such as an increase in muscle mass as a response to mechanical tension, however each individual is capped at how much muscle mass they could naturally put on/ how quickly they could put it on and that is directly genetic. Apologies for the rambling.

Actually swimming is innate to the fish because it was actually the evolutionary species prior to the fish that done all the hard work of adapting to swim 🤣 so technically the fish was designed to swim even if there was no designer, it was designed through the dna of its ancestral species

The problem here is that you are confusing adaptation with evolution. If a bird species over time, meaning over generations/offspring develops gills, then that bird did not adapt. The bird has inherited traits due to natural selection. Meaning it is already within them, and that supports his framework way more
