Ever caught yourself wanting what somebody else has? Or maybe you started dressing different because of who you were around? Or picked up a new habit? Ever let somebody talk you into something you never would've done alone, Good or bad? Peer pressure doesn't stop after high school... it just gets quieter and harder to recognize. Like I said though, it could be good or bad. Maybe someone pushed you to eat better, travel somewhere new, reach a level you wouldn't have hit on your own. The people around us shape us. That's just how we're wired. But here's where it gets serious. When the lifestyle is destructive. When the lifestyle you're absorbing... the crowd you're running with... the habits slowly forming... go directly against God's Word! Now it's a problem, especially if you're claiming to follow Jesus Christ. This video and caption could serve as a warning to anyone but Christians should never hold non-believers to the standards set forth by God because they haven't entered into relationship with Him yet. These standards were given to His people... not to those still outside. You cannot be set apart and fully blended in at the same time. It doesn't work like that! Jude 22-23 actually lays out how Christians should move around people who don't know Jesus yet. For those still searching... still doubting... still figuring it out... the answer is mercy. They haven't seen what you've seen yet. Meet them where they are. But for those living deep in a lifestyle of sin... Jude says approach them mercy still, but now it has to be mixed with something else. A reverence for God so deep that everything opposed to Him genuinely repels you. Hating even the clothing stained by the corrupted flesh. Because proximity is real... what you stay close to eventually gets on you. You can reach toward someone without stepping all the way into what's consuming them. That's the balance! And then there are people who don't have time for slow and careful... some people are so far in that Jude says you need to snatch them out of the fire. Not suggest. Not hint. Snatch! You really are who you hang out with... Jude knew that long before it became a saying. And all this word does is expand on Jesus' commandments, Love God with all of your heart, mind soul body and strength, love yourself and love your neighbor.
