We use thought when we read and reduce a word to fact or truth … losing sight of context and the hint it points to. Jesus was a consciously present human that did not judge words but saw the context instead. The river was born in the womb of its mother the mountain is an example of how language can be interpreted contextually but won’t make literal sense. Now apply it to the son of god.

I tend to use the French picture of a pipe which say this is not a pipe in French - because it’s a painting not a pipe - is a good illustration

Could you recommend a good book about the history of the Bible but not from a theological perspective?

We assume “word” means text, but the word was spoken long before it was written.

Dan, I understand this may not be your area of expertise, but I'm curious what thoughts you would have about the role language has in the difference between the signified versus the signifier cuz it sounds like that's what you're tiptoeing around here.

III/3. The problem with this construction is that: (1) The sound wave parallel breaks down exactly where the whole argument turns: no one claims that a sound wave is God-breathed, whereas Scripture claims exactly this about the written text (2 Tim 3:16), so the illustration does not hold at the decisive point; (2) From the broad semantic range of the concept "Word of God" (creative word, prophetic word, gospel, incarnate Word), it does not follow that the range would exclude the written form; conflating breadth with exclusion is a conceptual shift; (3) Paul's self-differentiation, in its own context, is not a demarcation of inspired and uninspired passages, but a separation of quoting a saying from Jesus and making an apostolic judgment; moreover, Paul ties this apostolic judgment to possessing the Spirit; (4) The argument suppresses the massive amount of scriptural evidence that treats the speech of the written text directly as the speech of God.

Correct. Jesus Christ is the word of God. The incarnated 'Logos' of God. His son.
