I've been married for eleven years. My husband is one of those dads every mum at the school seems to like. He's friendly, chats to everyone, always remembers people's names. Even the teachers know him. I'll be honest, I used to love that about him. I'm a bit more reserved, so it balanced us out. About six months ago, I changed jobs and started working from home three days a week. One Tuesday morning, I decided to do the school run instead because he had an early meeting. About six months ago, I changed jobs and started working from home three days a week. One Tuesday morning, I decided to do the school run instead because he had an early meeting. When we got there, something happened that caught my attention. Another mum walked over and asked, "Where's Ben today?" I laughed and said, "He's working." The smile disappeared from her face for a second. Then she just said, "Oh... right." It was awkward. Really awkward. I didn't think much of it until a few weeks later. I was collecting our daughter early because she'd been sick. That same woman was outside the school. She walked over and apologised. I asked what she meant. She looked confused and said, "I just assumed he'd told you." My stomach dropped. She quickly realised she'd said too much and tried to change the subject. I stopped her. She told me that for almost a year, she and my husband had coffee together after dropping the kids off. Not every day. Just whenever they were both free. She said nothing physical ever happened. She even swore on her children. According to her, they'd just... talked. About work. Marriage. Life. Then one day she told him she was starting to have feelings for him. He immediately stopped meeting her. Blocked her number. That was the end of it. I asked my husband about it that evening. Everything she said was true. He admitted it straight away. Then he said something that has been bothering me ever since. "I didn't tell you because I dealt with it before it became an affair." I honestly don't know how to feel. Part of me respects that he walked away. Another part keeps asking... If I hadn't found out by accident... Was he ever going to tell me? And if someone hides something to protect the marriage... Is that still lying?
