The allegations are serious, and some residents have already opened criminal cases with SAPS. 🚔 The FF+ says residents should: 📸 Take photos of your electricity meter before and after any technician works on it. 📝 Keep all fault reference numbers and records. 🚫 Never pay anyone cash to cancel a fine. ☎️ Report any alleged bribery or extortion to the police immediately. 📧 If you believe a fine is unfair, submit a formal dispute to the City of Tshwane. At the same time, Tshwane is rolling out new smart prepaid electricity meters worth R78 million. ⚡ These new meters are designed to: ✅ Detect tampering automatically. ✅ Monitor electricity usage remotely. ✅ Help reduce electricity theft. ✅ Improve municipal revenue collection. The smart meters use sensors that can detect if someone tries to open, disconnect, or interfere with the meter. They can also identify unusual electricity usage patterns that may indicate illegal connections or bypassing. 📡 If you have a prepaid electricity meter, always keep records of any work done on your property.
