Handling the pay rise that never happens…. When you’ve been promised a pay rise and it seems like you’re constantly being fobbed off it can lead to feelings of resentment. Understandable especially if you’ve taken on more responsibilities. Wanting to assert yourself in this situation is the right thing to do but assertiveness and reactivity are not the same thing. Acting from emotion and reactivity like we see in this first part of the clip is unlikely to help the situation, if anything it could cause lead to resistance in your manager at a time you need them to be advocating for you. This is a time when strong influencing skills are needed. The second part of the video shows an example of being assertive and influencing the situation.
