A lot of carers act like this btw, they dont actually care for their clients.

I agree that the carers’ actions need to be questioned, but the management also needs to be held accountable for allowing him to go out in the first place. Where were the risk assessments? Where was the management oversight? The care home manager should also be questioned about their role in this. Accountability shouldn’t fall solely on the carers if there were failures in management and risk assessment.

They also tried to bundle him into their car and drive away, but were finally stopped at the gates by staff

2-1 funding for a person is so difficult to get approved in first place, so the fact that carers have been standing around on phones is worrying!

as a carer myself there is no excuse...even if one was logging reports the other should have had eyes on the service user.

10 metres is far if the client can be volatile and unpredictable. Something has gone wrong here

Far too often this is the case with so-called carers.

I am a support worker ,I take my clients in the community,I’m never on my phone while I work and I stay right next to my clients 2-1 says that the client might have some challenging behaviour ,on the flip side some families put staff under pressure to take clients out to different places that might not be suitable

So there were two carers for one man and they still were unable to prevent this?

so they should but so should the agency and the council. The problem is the council funds these agencies, the funding is so low the agencies then employ untrained or people who don't care.
