taking her socks is my favorite part. that's the exact type of specific thing that would make me feel so understood.

The only part I didn't quite like was that it felt almost like he was treating her like child. Which, probably says more about me, and the fact that I wasn't talked to like this even when I was a kid.

Why is everyone so upset about his voice. It's ok to be soothed. It's not limited to kids to be talked to gently.

I go into panic mode because as a kid this would lead to me being verbally abused at minimum. My husband is calm and supportive like that man and it's so incredible to experience a healthy loving reaction when I'm freaking out 🥰

If my partner talked to me like I was 5 year old I’d be insulted

My husband is the only person that can calm me down when I am overwhelmed, overstimulated or scared. He's my rock, my person. He's not perfect and can irritate me but I wouldn't trade him.

Other people are talking about the repetitive “are you okay” bc they feel it’s like he’s talking to a child but she’s also having freeze responses. It’s almost like she is expecting things to keep being bad or stressful- him repeating it, isn’t infantilizing it’s a “come back to me/present moment” type of call to action

This is taught, initially, when parents react to their children’s “mistakes” in the same manner. (At least I would argue that’s where these skills are generally first learned)

He also kept her safe... Don't get hurt rushing to fix a problem that we can fix later when it cools off. 🤷🏻♀️

last year I spilled coffee all over my desk and immediately broke down, and my gf moved me to the side and cleaned it up for me.
it happened again earlier this year and this time she waited and watched me and gently talked me through my stress, and I got through the cleanup without crying for maybe the first time in all my 30 years, even when she hugged me. and like I know its stupid that thats an achievement but I have such a poor reaction to stress that it was monumental. the right partner really has such a profound impact on day to day mental health.

My husband does this when I’m overwhelmed. I’m autistic and he’s spent our entire relationship watching me and learning how to communicate with me. I’m thankful for it every day
