Replying to @Steph the Attachment Therapist You gotta figure out how to survive your childhood one way or another, and what better way to adapt to emotionally baren relationships than to get rid of your emotions and needs? 🙃 So many Gen X folks and parents have interacted with and stitched my content, allowing me to bear witness to their experience and confirm what I see within my practice, which is profound wounds of emotional neglect. Surviving emotional neglect is like learning how to breathe with Co2 instead of oxygen. It is a perversion of something incredibly natural - having needs. So in order to survive, you cut yourself off from your needs, you disown them. You learn to inhale Co2 instead of exhale it. This is a survival strategy that kept you alive in your childhood, that comes and knocks you off your feet when your child asks for their emotional needs to be met by you. “Emotional what?! Breathe oxygen?! I forgot how to do that a really long time ago!” The truth is, if you have access to either a partner you feel safe with, and/or a support system you can safely and readily access, you no longer need to keep these parts of you disowned in order to survive. You really may be able to safely reconnect to yourself, and in turn, better connect to your partner and children, just as you were always designed to do. #healing #HealingJourney #healingtiktok #genx #Relationship #relationships #trauma #childhoodtrauma #neglect #emotions #emotionalneglect #cptsd #childhood #nocontact #family #familydrama #parenting #therapy #therapytiktok #therapytok #MentalHealth #mentalillness #therapist #therapistsontiktok #disorganizedattachment #trauma #traumatok #fyp #foryou
