As a manager, i had to do both. Both is hard! Its a bad statement that bartenders know more then servers. Its really different. Servers have to know more about the plates if costumers ask questions about it. Bartenders have to know their cocktails, that the servers also have to explain. Its 2 different kind of departments. For me both is hard. I just can talk out of experience.

Bartending is easier than serving, but you're in more of a constant state of motion than you are as a server.

Servers work just as hard as us and they have to be a lot nicer which is more exhausting. We work longer hours but we get to have a creative outlet as we work. They just have to grind for 6-12 hours. Appreciate your teammates

I can replace two servers with one bartender. Hell I could cut the entire my entire service staff and my team of bartenders could run the whole operation 😭😭

I have to serve and bus my whole bar top while ALSO making drinks for the whole restaurant, answer questions about spirits or drinks, know all the drink specs, im responsible for all my glassware, and im usually also doing some kind of prep on the side too. By myself

I was an average barback and became a auper barback … then became a bartender (a freaking great bartender) sales and following to the roof … my sales used to be about 30% of total sales .. in my humble opinion BARBACKS become the best bartenders
