Kim Jong Un Convenes Army Commanders' Meeting and Meets Division, Brigade Officers Highly appreciating the devoted efforts of the commanding officers leading combined units in service of the country and the people, Kim Jong Un warmly encouraged them. He met commanding officers of combined units at all levels of the entire army and discussed a series of important military issues with them. Stressing the important role of division and brigade commanders, he said that the task of developing the Korean People's Army into the world’s strongest army rests with them. He also outlined the main orientation for carrying out current military and political tasks. Reaffirming that combat training is the army’s primary task, he advanced a policy to readjust the training system and intensify practical drills in line with the changing nature of modern warfare and the development of the army. He noted that future measures would be taken to modernize the army in organizational and technical aspects, stressing the important responsibility of commanding officers in implementing them correctly. He also called for redefining operational concepts across all fields and applying them to combat training in step with the rapid modernization of military equipment. Referring to the Workers' Party of Korea policy on strengthening frontline units along the southern border and turning the border line into an impregnable fortress, he presented plans to reorganize military structures and reinforce key units militarily and technically in order to further deter war. Briefing the officers on the modernization of the KPA and progress in military technology development, Kim Jong Un said that the army’s strategic capabilities would be greatly enhanced once the goals of the Five-Year Plan are fulfilled, bringing a major change in war deterrence capabilities. He stressed that commanding officers at all levels should continue to strengthen their class consciousness and vigilance while faithfully carrying out their duty of defending national sovereignty. Saying that the KPA defends the country with ideology and faith more than physical strength, he emphasized that ideological conviction is the source of the army’s combat capability and called for steadily intensifying ideological education to uphold the honor of the army as the world’s strongest force.
