Replying to @Clem 🍊 [READ HERE] Link page in bio to learn the truth about the racing industry. Studies show 95-100% of racehorses bleed from the lungs, a condition called Exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage (EIPH), from such intense exercise that their lungs cannot handle. Instead of the industry acknowledging they’re pushing them too hard, they simply cover it up by giving them “medicine”, although this doesn’t always save them. Many racehorse deaths are caused by musculoskeletal injuries (leg fractures, catastrophic breakdowns) during racing or training. For example, a 2017 study concluded that musculoskeletal injury accounted for 68% of deaths associated with racing or training across all breeds. A later analysis in 2021 found that MSI, mainly fractures, were the most frequently reported presenting problem associated with fatality in Thoroughbreds. Horses typically start racing at only 2 years old, and begin training even earlier, despite a horses skeletal system not fully developing until at least 5-6 years old. A 2 year old horses developing bones are more delicate and more prone to injury under extreme pressure such as racing. Additionally, Under the HISA, which regulates U.S. thoroughbred racing, a fatality is only counted in national statistics if the horse dies or is euthanized within 72 hours of a race or timed workout due to injuries sustained at the track. A horse euthanized more than 72 hours after its race, even for a related injury, may not be included in official totals. Many reports only count deaths that happen during a race, ignoring fatalities that occur at a track during training. Training is especially prone to having unreported deaths. Additionally, most tracks in the US keep them stalled 23 hours a day, despite horses requiring daily turnout for both their mental and physical health. + There’s so much more #fyp #viral #horse #equestrian #horseracing
