On 6 October 1978, Imam Khomeini is filmed arriving at his temporary home in France after his expulsion from Iraq following his 14 year exile. He settled in Neauphle-le-Château where he planned and lead the final stages of the Islamic Revolution. Even with a lack of technology and minimal freedom, he found a way to successfully lead part of the revolution from France to Iran, like using cassette tapes to record his speeches and sermons, which were then taken into Iran for his supporters to hear. After roughly 120 days of exile in France, Imam Khomeini returned to Iran, only weeks after the Shah fled and finalized his ousting. On 11 February 1979, the complete overthrowing of the Shah took place, and Imam Khomeini took over as Irans first Supreme Leader until his death on 3 June 1989. The rest is history.
