Even for the people we know have the means for "top care." Get a sore throat as a young kid and what's the plan? Test (culture), label (strep), med (antibiotic), back to schools. It's the only system we know. Medication helps a lot of people. But, especially in MH, it was never meant to be the whole plan, and it's not a cure. It's a boost to help us do the real healing work: connection, time, and tools we use every day, not just when we're in crisis. I've been writing about this for almost a decade, here, and it's a big part of why I wrote DiagNOsis (which I'm not plugging off of a passing...that's gross... and I didn't put it in the slides - I'm plugging it here bc we NEED to talk about and approach this topic differently - the link is in my bio, out 11/10). RJ isn't the first public figure we've lost this year to mental health - not by a long shot. Until we stop putting square pegs in round holes thru this system, he won't be the last.
