Do you think one could be sick possibly? My two sister cats loved each other and were always inseparable but then one got cancer and the other could either smell or sense that she was ill and they hated each other from then on. Maybe take them to the vet to get a checkup?

So I worked in an animal shelter and in TNR cat trapping and have had cats my entire life. This can happen between bonded cats sometimes and it’s very upsetting. If both are healthy and it’s not a health related issue what likely happened is when your one cat got outside either he smelt something that upset him or he picked up a scent that when you brought him back inside your other cat picked up that upset him. Either way if that’s the cause they being upset turned their aggression on one another and thus they now associate the other cat with that upsetting incident. The yowling and caterwauling is classic cat scrap noises. Unfortunately this won’t be an overnight solution and actually sometimes they never go back to having a positive relationship like they did before if any positive relationship at all. Now that they associate each other negatively you have to act as if you are introducing two strange cats to one another. I don’t have the entire schedule cat behaviour experts recommend you follow of the top of my head but it’s pretty easy to find on google. The most important thing is they live completely separate in different areas with no sight access to one another until you’ve begun reintroducing them. I’d also wash all cat beds and blankets so the other’s scent isn’t on there. If you have one cat using a blanket in one area take that blanket and place it in the other cat’s room so the other cat can smell the first cat and learn to associate that scent positively rather than negatively. I believe that’s also all outlined in the introducing cat’s guide you can find. I’m so sorry this happened and hopefully after some time they can rebond and have their happy relationship back ❤️🩹

This happens to my sibling bonded cats sometimes after vet appointments. It lasted for like two weeks once :/. Separating them and going slowly didn’t work for me tbh, it only made the animosity more tense and hostile every-time they saw each other. They both wanted to be wherever I was so I had to basically referee them and talk calmly to them constantly watching them, eventually they started to just ignore each other and then coexist again. Then I moved to giving them treats and their food together (separately but in the same room.) I know how it feels like it will never get back to normal but I promise it will! Good luck.

My clients cat did this. There was a cat outside he could see and he snapped!! The other cat was basically living in the closet. So sad this is happening.

You may have already heard this, so sorry if it’s a repeat, but this happens with my cats twice — one happened after one of my cats had surgery and the other happened when I had to take one of my cats to a different vet. My cat that was still at home in these two scenarios stated hissing and attacking the cat that came back and it turned out he was experiencing Non-Recognition Aggression. The first time it lasted 3 days, the second time lasted about a month give or take. It felt like years. But ultimately it does usually pass in most cases I think, it thankfully did for me. It’s happens when one of the cats smell changes due to going outside and picking up unfamiliar scents, anesthesia, etc and the other cat literally doesn’t recognize them. They think it’s a different cat. It’s bizarre. Anyway, I’m not an expert by any means but this sounds like what was happening with mine, so maybe something to look into if you haven’t already!

I had rescue brother and sister. Started same as yours, then it switched. My male was diagnosed with advanced HIV. He didn’t survive for much longer by the time he was diagnosed. He had regular vet visits. Adopted them from my vet. Just something to look into.

My cat used to attack my other older cat. It would only happen when she would see a cat outside. She was put on meds for a little till she calmed down. It helped for sure

Ding ding ding Cat Fight!! I’d let them work it out. Maybe the one that got out had a taste of alley cat and needs to be put back in his place 😂

play with them together with a lazer pointer or the long fishing rod style toy and feed treats together it will help to re bond them and have positive associations.

I’d avoid forcing it too much, it sounds too fast for PJ, and he will fear Perry chasing him (even if Perry gets over it!)

@🅻🅰🅳🆈 🅼🅴🅶: : I didn't know one went out. That's a huge sign the one that went out has a different scent. My cat does it when coming home from the vet. It takes a while to get them back to normal. I get a scent with a towel and wipe one cat and the wipe the other just to get the smell more familiar. It will be a couple days weeks

I wonder if you should try some positive reinforcement, i freeze those lick treats for my cat, you could try sharing it between them and praising them. Food tends to help
