Its not AI it's photoshop. And it's clearly not a recent picture unless he decided to get a facelift and dye his hair back to grey after having his medical emergency and his wife has somehow teleported back to the US from China. The BBC knows better than to not investigate this properly before reporting.

Having had a 90 year old grandfather who had pneumonia and never recovered from it before he passed and had no major prior health issues. Someone with Mitch’s prior health issues, doesn’t just miraculously recover. That photo is right to be questioned. The BBC shouldn’t believe every social media release.

Why isn’t the photo quality good enough though? Any photo taken on a camera phone in the last decade should still allow you to see the headline when you zoom in. The photographer doesn’t even appear to be that far away from them and the POV is high-level. What are both of them looking at? Also, just because it’s not AI doesn’t mean it’s not manipulated.
