Have had plenty of experiences like this with domestic airlines unfortunately. I feel like they’ve made a strategic business decision in the last few years to have the answer to taking responsibility for their mistakes be a hard no.

I thought a similar situation with Bank of America about 10 years ago and the only way I got through to corporate was a nasty complaint on better Business Bureau they had a complete separate Department that only handled complaints through the BBB

Same same same - American and British airways saga! American says one thing and BA says another. Got nowhere with the “request a refund”, no one to talk to and when I finally did (6 months later) they said- oh, this is already closed, too late. Furious! I’ll never fly on a partner airline again

It’s insane. I went through the same thing for something much smaller. They changed me from more legroom seat to regular seat and it took a month to get miles credit. They wouldn’t give me money credit. It’s crazy to me they have no one to speak to. Portal only.

No matter what… don’t stop your credit card dispute until AA refund you… it’s a sneaky, dirty trick… they say they can’t do anything until you close out the dispute process but then they don’t follow through.

I am surprised by BA. I have found them to be really good. Usually with receipts ceo office is good. Media reach can help leverage a positive outcome. It’s off to say it’s free and then surprise you with a large charge.
