This actually happened to me. I even logged into the PTO portal and showed them the approved PTO and they still fired me because one of the days was Mother’s Day and they were busy

Put a 3 months notice in. Approved. Finished work traveled to destination overnight. 1st morning on vacation, I get a call “hey where are you?” I’m like I was approved for vacation. “Oh I’m sorry about that but we couldn’t get coverage. Can you come in anyway? We really need you.” Yeah, no I’m 10 hour drive away. Sorry. Click.

Cruise for thanksgiving I put me time off in January and it was declined. And I put it in 10 times. Each time it was declined. Found another job who was just fine with my time off. I told them I wasn’t coming one way or another
