🚨 Handing the GASLIGHTER👇 🧠 Before I dive into this I wanted to firstly clarify what gaslighting is as it has become quite a widely used term. Gaslighting is when someone denies your reality AND then turns it around onto you to make you doubt yourself. So in the example shown in this video, the gaslighter has denied what they did in the meeting (so they’re lying) and then they turn it onto the person saying they misinterpret things and they’re overreacting. This is a form of manipulation used to gain power and control 😳 🚨 Gaslighting is NOT someone disagreeing with you or remembering something differently to you. 💡 When someone gaslights you your automatic response will likely be to defend yourself, argue your position and respond emotionally. OR you might start doubting yourself. These reactions are exactly what a gaslighter wants as they will see this as gaining power and control. 🔥 The skill is to spot when you’re being gaslighted and learn to control the urge to fight back. Do the OPPOSITE of what you automatically want to do. Respond calmly, don’t react and don’t bite the bait. As shown in the second half if this video. 💡Gaslighters will not validate your reality and you don’t need them to. I would recommend distancing yourself as much as you can from people like this. They will get bored when they see they can’t manipulate you. 📌 Please remember the advice offered in this video is generalised. You know your situation better than anyone else so trust your instincts, if this doesn’t fit your situation ignore it. You’ve got this 💪 🚀 Follow for more tips on handling people problems at work #worktips #leadershipdevelopment #managingpeople #communicationskills #corporatelife #difficultpeople #assertivecommunication #difficultconversations #gaslighting
