they need to build the massive storage capacity to eliminate gas and/or connect the grid to the European network with high capacity cable to match supply and demand. Then marginal prices will naturally drop.

Domestic Gas boilers are switched off during the summer. However gas power stations that generate electricity do use lots of gas!

Scotland produces far more renewable electricity than it can use & it’s increasing & yet as usual we are shafted on the price. They are at it. It’s nigh on time the power & greed was stripped away from them.

The need is: I'm too poor to change from my boiler to something cheaper. I know the alternatives are likely cheaper overall long term, but I don't have the money for the upfront installation costs. I can barely feed my family and keep the lights on.

Storytime: Back in the Day, Gordon Brown decided to make british energy less reliant on Putin, and invested heavily in wind and solar. The wind was to be offshore and in three phases. Phase 1 gave Britain the largest offshore power system in the world, and when David Cameron came into power, he cancelled phase 2 and 3. He and his friends pushed small gas powered generators from Germany, and changed planning law so that local houseowner objections couldnt prevent the construction of a gas-burn generator. Cameron also promised the owners that the gas generators wold be powered 65% of the day. That 15 year committment is why Britain is burning so much gas. 144 gas generators burning imported gas, and polluting Britain.

Totally agree the lag is totally political. For example, AC units are reversible (heat pump). They can heat and cool on electricity. Government has known this for at least 10 years. They actually generate more heat per KwH (equivalent) of Gas then central boiler

I had my gas meter removed when I moved in. After the bad summer in 22, I decided to save and get modern aircon installed, and since they have heatpumps they make very affordable little heaters. Spent 1.2k and it costs naf all to run. Given how much the average home heating bill is, it's safe to say my unit will have paid for it's in a year or twos time.

Wanted to switch to a heat pump for a while & looked a green mortgages to help pay for it, but it’s so off putting because the cost of running it won’t save me any money. I also have a new build house that comes equipped with solar panels due to new legislation…. They gave us 2 panels. Tf is that supposed to do? It just ticked a box for them.

Just a thought: We should be focusing on upgrading our ancient coal-based grid to manage renewables, whilst focusing on storage and more small and large scale renewables.
