Black culture is not violence. Black culture is not crime. Black culture is not the stereotypes that have been repeated for generations to define an entire people. When some people think of Black culture, they're often pointing to the struggles found in some low-income neighborhoods,not the culture itself. Poverty, lack of opportunity, underfunded schools, addiction, and crime are not exclusive to Black communities. You'll find many of the same problems in low-income white communities and other communities as well. Those conditions are tied far more to socioeconomic hardship than to race. What often gets ignored is that violence and crime also exist in white communities. The difference is that those acts are usually seen as the actions of individuals, while crimes committed by Black people are too often used to stereotype an entire race. That's a double standard. Black culture is resilience. It's family, creativity, entrepreneurship, faith, education, art, music, innovation, and generations of people who have overcome barriers while continuing to shape the world. It's jazz, blues, gospel, rock, R&B, hip-hop, literature, science, business, activism, and excellence in every profession imaginable. Every community has people who make bad choices. Every community has people who uplift others. A culture should be judged by its values, its contributions, and the millions of people living honorable live, not by the worst actions of a small percentage. Black culture is beauty.
