@centuryreset: I wasn't even supposed to find this. I was in Sicily — not Rome — turned down a side street, and walked into a room I still can't explain. And it was empty. Busy day, tourists everywhere outside, and inside I had the whole thing to myself. A room like this in any other city has a line around the block. This one isn't on the maps. Ask yourself why. Every color in here is cut stone — marble and jasper, sliced thinner than a fingernail and locked together by hand, floor to ceiling, every inch. They say men did it over 150 years. Men who started knowing they'd die before it was finished. Then a bomb went through it in 1943, and we tried to rebuild it with lasers and scanners and every tool this century owns. We couldn't. We stood in front of it and could not reproduce it. So if we can't build it now — who built it then? Either they were something we are not, or something else laid these stones.
