My husband and I were watching our two toddlers interact with each other and he made a comment along the lines of, “This is what it’s like growing up with siblings,” and as an only child, I was just sitting there thinking about how different their childhood experience is from mine 😅 Growing up, my mom and I were far from rich, but I never went without, and I genuinely have zero complaints about my upbringing. My mom was intentional about the life she provided for me, and a big part of that was having a support system. When I decided to become a parent, I naturally imagined that my experience would look similar to what I grew up seeing, especially when it came to having help. But our reality is different. My husband and I make it work, but I would be lying if I said that didn’t make a difference. And that’s really what I want people to consider when deciding whether to have children or expand their families. What happens if you move away from your support system? What happens if the help you currently have is no longer available? Are you financially, mentally, emotionally, and physically prepared for what parenting might look like under those circumstances? This isn’t to discourage anyone from having children, nor is it to suggest that having one child guarantees an easier experience. It’s simply a reminder that being intentional about family planning goes beyond deciding how many children you want. You also have to consider the life you want to provide, the resources available to you, and the life you want to maintain for YOURSELF 💯 Only you can determine what’s realistic for your circumstances, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with deciding that one child is enough. #motherhood #oneanddone #intentionalparenting
