@astoldbyambria: My husband and I were watching our two toddlers interact with each other and he made a comment along the lines of, “This is what it’s like growing up with siblings,” and as an only child, I was just sitting there thinking about how different their childhood experience is from mine 😅 Growing up, my mom and I were far from rich, but I never went without, and I genuinely have zero complaints about my upbringing. My mom was intentional about the life she provided for me, and a big part of that was having a support system. When I decided to become a parent, I naturally imagined that my experience would look similar to what I grew up seeing, especially when it came to having help. But our reality is different. My husband and I make it work, but I would be lying if I said that didn’t make a difference. And that’s really what I want people to consider when deciding whether to have children or expand their families. What happens if you move away from your support system? What happens if the help you currently have is no longer available? Are you financially, mentally, emotionally, and physically prepared for what parenting might look like under those circumstances? This isn’t to discourage anyone from having children, nor is it to suggest that having one child guarantees an easier experience. It’s simply a reminder that being intentional about family planning goes beyond deciding how many children you want. You also have to consider the life you want to provide, the resources available to you, and the life you want to maintain for YOURSELF 💯 Only you can determine what’s realistic for your circumstances, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with deciding that one child is enough. #motherhood #oneanddone #intentionalparenting

When you have a intentional present parent you don’t feel lonely or a void.

I am a one and done mom and if I ask my son if he wants a sibling he yells no repeatedly lol also there's an added layer that my son is autistic so I'm already having a tough time and there's no way I'm adding another kid to this mix lol

I stopped at one so mine didn’t have to share my love/time/attention w/ anyone else her dad gave her siblings so she won either way.

Having more children does not guarantee that a child will take care of you in old age + having more children does not guarantee that you are giving your child a "friend"

I resonate with this 1000%. I grew up the same way. And hence I am completely okay with my son being my one and only.

I am an only child, I lived a great life. My husband has a sister, he lived a great life! We do want one more (2 total), but I’m going to be a surgeon soon and husband is an environmental engineer so we can AFFORD to do for 2 what we can do for 1. Not a thing wrong with one and done, and we surely would be if we were going to be in different financial playing field

Me and my son just talked today about how he feels about me having another kid. It is my purpose to be a present parent so his opinions matter and deserves a space to be heard. It looks like we’ll remain one and done

I was an only child too. But I begged for a sibling til I was 13 and realized they wasn’t gonna give me on. I have told them I resent their decision while also realizing they just wanted me to have the best opportunities and spoiled life! My two boys don’t realize how lucky they are to have each other
