The Iron Ore Train in Mauritania is one of the most extreme train journeys in the world. It runs for about 700 kilometers across the Sahara Desert, transporting iron ore from the mines of Zouérat to the port city of Nouadhibou. The train can be over 2 kilometers long and takes 16–20 hours to complete the journey. What makes it famous—and dangerous—is that many people ride on top of open ore wagons.
