🇮🇹 THE INCREDIBLE COMEBACK OF THE ITALIAN WOLF 🐺 Just 50 years ago, only around 100 Italian wolves remained, surviving in isolated pockets of the Apennines after decades of persecution, poisoning and hunting. Today, thanks to legal protection and conservation, their numbers have recovered to an estimated 3,300–3,500 wolves across Italy. One of Europe’s greatest wildlife success stories. But the fight isn’t over. This year, at least 18 wolves were killed in a suspected mass poisoning in an Italian national park. Poison doesn’t just kill wolves—it also kills foxes, birds of prey, other scavengers, pets and countless non-target wildlife. The answer isn’t persecution. Farmers need greater support to live alongside wolves through livestock guardian dogs, electric fencing and fair compensation, making coexistence possible.
