⚠️ WARNING: DISTRESSING SCENES OF A SEVERELY UNWELL KANGAROO ⚠️ Got a pretty distressing call from one of my neighbours, legends. She’s a goat farmer who absolutely loves her wildlife, and we have a fairly large mob of kangaroos that moves between our two properties. She’d found one lying down in her paddock—extremely skinny, weak and struggling to get back onto his feet—so I ducked around to have a look. He was a young male, and one of his ankle joints was severely swollen and inflamed. There were no breaks in the skin and no obvious signs that any of the major bones were broken, but there appeared to be considerable damage or possibly an infection deep within the joint itself. Without a proper veterinary examination and imaging, it was impossible to know exactly what had happened. The injury may have restricted his movement so severely that he could no longer travel around and feed properly. He was extremely malnourished and dehydrated—pretty much a sack of skin and bones. At this stage, his chances of survival unfortunately weren’t great. We carefully scooped him up using this bloody brilliant sling, gave him as much comfort as possible and transported him back to my kangaroo pen. We settled him in with food and water to see whether we could get some strength into him and get him back up on his feet. This all happened on Saturday afternoon, and the plan was to organise veterinary assistance for Monday if he could make it through the weekend. We wanted to give him every reasonable chance, gave him some pain relief and a warm quiet space with some good food and water ❤️ Sometimes wildlife rescue isn’t about a miracle recovery. Sometimes it’s simply about making sure an animal isn’t left alone and suffering. #AustralianWildlife #KangarooRescue #WildlifeRescue #WildlifeRehabilitation #AnimalRescue
